Nigel Evans MP to visit Javea

NIGEL EVANS MP is to visit Javea on 2nd February 2nd and will lunch with members and friends of Conservatives Abroad Jávea. This is a private visit and the Branch is looking forward to welcoming him.

Nigel has a special interest in Conservatives Abroad. In November 2004, he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party, with specific responsibility for overseeing Conservatives Abroad and mobilising the Conservative vote overseas and is currently Chairman of the sub-committee on agriculture of the Council of Europe and Vice Chairman of the Technology and Aerospace Committee of the Western European Union. The lunch will be 29€ and will take place immediately after the Branch’s AGM.

Work has finally begun on the construction of the town's new bus station in Avda. Palmela, a project which was the top requirement requested by residents taking part in the participatory budget initiative for 2012. Councillor Tere Bisquert (Transportation) expressed her delight that the project was finally taking shape, solving a need that has not been met for many years and resulted in a town forced to live with a "Third World" situation with regards to transportation.

Bisquert explained that the project is a great investment for Jávea, highlighting the importance of such infrastructure for the tourism potential for the town, serving as a station for national services from Alicante, Valencia and Madrid as well as a hub of the town's taxi service. Being close to the town centre and next to a major road that links comfortably with the port, the arenal and the surrounding urbanisations, the new bus station will be in a perfect position.

Councillor Paco Torres (Works) said that the project has been designed as an intermoda station with four platforms for regular and occasional bus and coach services with a further platform for the local bus network and an area reserved for taxis. There will be a block with two toilets and a 20 sqm area for kiosk services which could be managed under concession or installed with vending machines. There will also be a information panels showing times of the services. He added that work is scheduled to last three months and will be carried out by local company F.David who was able to fulfil confidence that they would be able to complete the work for 115,197 euros, some 20% below the original budget estimation, despite the increase in VAT since it was established. Torres assured residents that the work would not prevent parking in the car-park which will remain free of charge.

Mayor José Chulvi stressed the importance of protecting public investment, especially at a time when resources have been limited, and to use them for projects decided by the residents as well as use local businesses to fulfill those needs. He confirmed that the bus station was the most voted for project of the 2012 participatory budget initiative and has been designed by local technicians which have helped to reduce costs. Chulvi added that the project is a prime example of one that does not require a large investment but provides the highest social return.

A unique and outstanding tour taking in seven more venues is underway in the Costa Blanca and the shows feature a fantastic Tribute to Karen Carpenter. Jackie Whyte has the exact voice and style of the superstar of The Carpenters who died at such a young age and she will take the audience through all of the songs that Karen's amazing style portrayed so well in the 70s. Jackie, who has been a singing sensation in Ireland for many years says "Karen had one of the most clear voices ever in music and she was simply a legend. I hope to illustrate some of her style as a perform some of her incredible songs".
